Built in French Second Empire style, this structure remains the world's tallest masonry building, supported by its own brick and stone walls rather than a frame. It spent nearly a decade as the world's tallest occupied building, crowned by a bronze figure of founder William Penn that stands as the tallest statue atop any building in the world.

Inside, guided history tours in groups of about 10 explore the detailed stonework and municipal background with room for questions. Elevator access takes visitors straight up into the clock tower observation deck for panoramic perspectives across Philadelphia.
