Puerto Rican Art and a Historic Theater in East Harlem
Tour Latin American art from the pre Columbian era to modern times in under an hour on a suggested donation.
🎭 Two Exhibition Spaces
El Museo del Barrio gives Puerto Rican and Latin American art a compact home on Museum Mile at 1230 Fifth Ave. The galleries span Latino culture in the Americas from the pre Columbian era to modern times, with a mix of recently acquired pieces and rotating exhibitions.
The visit stays contained, with two exhibition spaces that take about 30 to 45 minutes to tour. That short format fits a rainy afternoon or a stop between other Museum Mile galleries, and admission works on a suggested donation, an easy way to drop in for a single show.
The museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM and closed Monday through Wednesday. The historic theater hall stays closed to general museum goers and opens only for presentations. Check the program ahead of time to catch the hall in use, and plan the gallery loop around it.
