🍽️ A Room in Two Moods

The Modern turns dinner into a study in contrast, with a lively bar giving way to a quiet dining room inside MoMA. Chef Thomas Allan leads tasting menus through fresh seafood and precise meats, with hiramasa tart, chilled lobster, and lamb served medium rare among the courses.

At 9 W 53rd St, the room keeps its focus on the plate, then opens toward the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. From the dining room, the sculpture garden stays in view, a detail that shifts the pace from polished city dinner to something more measured. The kitchen aims for refined food without needless complication, which makes the meal feel composed rather than showy. Lunch runs from noon to two thirty PM daily, and dinner starts at 5 PM, running to nine thirty PM on Friday and Saturday. Settle in for the full arc, from the first course to the last look at the garden.
