Wynwood is the Miami neighbourhood most likely to hand a first-timer an out-of-date map. It turns over faster than any other part of the city, and 2026 has been an unusually brutal year for it: two of the rooms that anchored almost every recommendation list closed within days of each other in July, while a Korean bakery chain and a New York bagel institution moved in on the other side of the same few blocks. If you are working from a guide written even nine months ago, at least one of your stops no longer exists.
Wynwood turns over faster than the guides do, and two of the most-recommended rooms here shut in July. Ask Karpo what is actually open on the block you are standing on before you walk to an address that closed.
Start With What Just Closed, Because the Lists Have Not Caught Up
Shiso, at 239 NW 28th Street, ended restaurant service on 12 July 2026. Chef Raheem Sealey's modern Asian smokehouse had a rooftop and a chef's counter and sat on nearly every serious Wynwood list; the space is being relaunched as the Wynwood Event Center, with the smokehouse continuing as its in-house kitchen and catering programme rather than as a restaurant you can book a table at.
Nino Gordo, at 112 NW 28th Street, closed in July 2026 as well. It was the Argentine import that ran live fire through Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian flavours in one of the most theatrical dining rooms in the neighbourhood, and it sat a few doors from Shiso. Losing both ends of the same short block in the same month is why NW 28th Street feels quieter than its reputation right now, and why a list that recommends both should be treated as expired rather than merely dated.
What Actually Opened This Year
Paris Baguette opened its first Miami cafe on 30 June 2026 at 2217 North Miami Avenue, inside Strata Wynwood, run by franchise owner Cesar Paoli. It is a Korean bakery chain rather than a neighbourhood independent, and treating it as either a discovery or a disappointment misses the useful part: it is a large, air-conditioned, all-day room with pastry and coffee in a neighbourhood where mid-afternoon shade is genuinely scarce.
H and H Bagels, the New York institution, has signed for 55 NW 29th Street in Wynwood Plaza and is slated for late 2026, alongside Sanguich, the Little Havana sandwich counter taking its second serious Miami address. Neither is open as you read this. Wynwood Plaza is worth knowing about as a 2027 proposition rather than a stop on today's walk.
The Geography, Which Is Simpler Than It Looks
Wynwood reads as chaos and is actually a grid with three useful lines. NW 2nd Avenue is the spine and carries most of the foot traffic, the murals and the highest concentration of restaurants and taprooms. North Miami Avenue, one block east, is where the newer large-format developments have landed, including Strata. The numbered cross-streets between 22nd and 29th are where the smaller independent rooms sit, and they change fastest.
For a first visit, walk NW 2nd Avenue north from 23rd Street, cut east on one cross-street, come back down North Miami Avenue. That is under two miles, covers the murals without a detour, and puts you within a block of almost everything in this piece. Do it before noon or after five: the middle of a September afternoon here is direct sun on concrete with very little shade.
The Room You Cannot Find, and the One That Never Closes
Hiden is the neighbourhood's Michelin-starred omakase counter and it is behind an unmarked entrance, which is not a marketing flourish so much as a real navigational problem. You do not walk past it and decide to go in. It is a booking made days ahead, and if that is the meal you want, it is the first thing to arrange rather than the last.
At the other extreme, La Sandwicherie's Wynwood shop at 169 NW 23rd Street runs 8am to 5am every day. Five in the morning, seven days. It is the single most reliable address in this write-up and the reason a Wynwood night out does not have to end hungry. The chain has five South Florida locations and only the Sunny Isles one keeps normal hours, so if you are anywhere near Wynwood, Brickell, South Beach or North Beach after midnight, this is the fallback.
Where to Sit When It Is Too Hot to Walk
Wynwood's daytime problem in September is shade. The practical answer is to plan around rooms with real air conditioning and long hours rather than around a specific dish: KYU runs an early-evening happy hour on weekdays with beer and sake at the lower end of the menu and Korean fried chicken as the thing to order, and R House at 2727 NW 2nd Avenue runs its happy hour Wednesday to Friday from 4pm to 7pm with dollar oysters on Fridays.
That window between four and seven is the neighbourhood at its best anyway. The murals are still lit by daylight, the rooms are not yet at night volume, and the pricing is at its most forgiving. If you only have one Wynwood block of time, spend it there rather than at nine in the evening when everything is at full price and full noise.
