Panther opened in Wynwood before most of the murals and almost all of the bars, and it is generally credited with starting Miami's specialty coffee scene rather than joining it. It has since been named among the world's hundred best coffee shops, and it still runs from seven in the morning until seven at night, seven days a week, on Northwest Second Avenue.

Identical hours every day is the underrated feature
Seven to seven, Monday through Sunday, with no reduced weekend schedule and no closed day. In a neighbourhood where a great deal opens at eleven, closes on Mondays, and adjusts for the art walk calendar, a room you can rely on without checking is worth something.
The seven o'clock open in particular has no real competition in Wynwood. If you are here early — before the galleries, before the murals fill with people photographing them — this is essentially the only serious coffee in the district, and the neighbourhood at that hour is a completely different and much better place to be.
It is a roastery, and you should order accordingly
The roasting happens on site and the business is built around sourcing rather than around drinks. That means the filter and pour-over options are where the work shows, and ordering a large iced latte with syrup is a legitimate choice that will tell you nothing about why this place has the reputation it does.
Ask what is on filter and order that. If you want something cold, the cold brew is made properly rather than being drip coffee poured over ice, and it holds up in Miami heat in a way that an iced pour-over does not. Both are the honest tests of the roasting.
The room, and the outdoor seating
There is indoor counter and table seating plus outdoor space, and in Miami the outdoor space is the good part for about eight months of the year. It fills first on a pleasant morning and it is where most of the neighbourhood's informal meetings seem to happen.
Inside is functional and busy. This is not a room designed for four hours with a laptop — the tables are close, the machine is loud, and the turnover is high. Twenty minutes to an hour is the right length of visit, and the room works well at that scale.
Where it sits relative to the Walls
Twenty-three ninety Northwest Second Avenue puts the roastery a short walk from the Wynwood Walls and in the middle of the district's main north-south spine. That is the densest part of Wynwood and it is entirely walkable from there in every direction.
The sequencing that works is coffee first, then the Walls, then the galleries, then lunch. Starting at seven means you see the murals without crowds, and the Walls themselves are considerably better photographed in early light than in the flat midday sun that most visitors get.
Parking, and why to avoid it
Wynwood parking is genuinely poor and gets worse through the day, and the paid lots fill in the evening. On a weekday morning street parking is findable; by Saturday afternoon it is a real problem and the walk from wherever you end up is longer than the walk from a rideshare drop-off.
If you are staying in Midtown or the Design District, walking in is straightforward and takes about fifteen minutes along Second Avenue. That approach also takes you past a good stretch of the district's newer murals rather than dropping you in the middle of it.
Buying beans
Bags are sold at the counter and this is a roastery, so the roast dates are recent by definition. If you are visiting Miami and want to take something back that is not a fridge magnet, a bag of coffee roasted a few days earlier in Wynwood is a considerably better souvenir than most of what the district sells.
Ask the staff what has just been roasted rather than picking by the label. The lineup rotates with what has been sourced, and the person behind the counter will have tasted it that week — which is the difference between a recommendation and a guess.
Second Saturday and the art walk problem
Wynwood runs a monthly art walk that turns the whole district into a crowd, and Second Avenue becomes effectively impassable for several hours. The roastery stays open through it and the queue reflects that, so if your plan involves sitting down with a coffee, the art walk evening is the one night a month to avoid entirely.
The morning of an art walk day, by contrast, is one of the best times to be here — the galleries are hanging work, the street is being set up, and the district has an energy without the crush. Coffee at eight on that morning and a walk through the setup is a genuinely good hour that almost nobody plans for.
Honest expectations
Wynwood now has several good coffee options and Panther is no longer the only serious one. What it retains is the roasting operation, the reliability of the hours, and a position at the centre of the district that makes it the natural first stop of a Wynwood day.
Go early, order filter, sit outside, and then walk. That is the visit this room is built for and it is genuinely one of the better ways to start a morning in Miami, whatever the coffee scene around it has grown into since.
