Pizza by the Slice Till 5 am: Bleecker Street Pizza

Bleecker Street Pizza at 69 7th Avenue South in the West Village serves slices until 5 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The Nonna Maria is the one to order.

Bleecker Street Pizza stands on the corner of 7th Avenue South and Bleecker Street at 69 7th Avenue South, and it is the West Village counter people mean when they say they are grabbing a slice after a show or a bar crawl. It opens at 10 am every day and stays open until midnight Sunday through Wednesday, 4 am on Thursday and 5 am on Friday and Saturday. Those late hours make it one of the most useful slice shops below 14th Street.

A Police Captain's Pizzeria on a Famous Corner

The shop says on its own site that it was established in 2004. Its founder was Douglas Greenwood, an NYPD captain, and Patch reported in 2018 that the pizzeria counts plenty of police officers among its regulars, since the 6th Precinct is only three blocks away. That mix of cops, students, tourists and late-night crowds from 7th Avenue South still defines the crowd at the counter.

The shop lists a long run of accolades on its homepage, including Food Network recognition three years running, a USA Today ranking among the top ten pizzerias in New York and a recommendation from The New York Times. Time Out reviewed it in 2025 and pointed slice hunters straight to the Nonna Maria. The room is bright, clean and tidy rather than gritty, which surprises people expecting a classic hole-in-the-wall.

Order the Nonna Maria First

The Nonna Maria is the slice that made the shop's reputation. It is built on a thin crust and topped with fresh mozzarella, homemade marinara sauce, the finest Parmesan and fresh basil, as the menu puts it, so it eats lighter and brighter than a standard cheese slice. The marinara is the point: tangy, garlicky and spooned on generously. A whole Nonna Maria pie lists at $30.99 on the shop's online delivery menu, and the slice is the default order for first-timers.

A regular cheese pie is $25 on the same menu, and that plain slice is a good baseline if you are comparing West Village shops. The grandma pie, with a thick old-world crust, is also $30.99 for the whole tray. Gluten-free diners have a real option here: a 13 inch gluten-free Nonna Maria pie is listed at $22. The menu also covers calzones, salads and pasta, plus beer and wine for anyone settling in at a table.

Two sides are worth adding. Garlic knots cost $4.50 an order and soak up a lot of that marinara. Rice balls are $9.95 and come with the shop's Nonna Maria sauce for dipping, which makes them almost a meal in themselves after midnight. Ask for your slice reheated well done if you like a crisp bottom, since the thin crust takes only a minute in the oven to firm up.

Standing Bar, Sidewalk Tables and the 3 am Crowd

Time Out describes the setup as a standing bar, a handful of small tables inside and on the sidewalk, and a side dining area with a little more room. Order at the counter, pay, and grab a spot at the bar along the window if you are eating fast. The sidewalk tables on 7th Avenue South are the best seats on a warm evening, with traffic, cabs and Village street life flowing past the corner.

The quiet hours are late morning right after the 10 am opening and mid-afternoon. Lines build after 11 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, when the bars along Bleecker and Christopher streets empty out, and again around 2 am. They move quickly because most people order a single slice. If you are in a group of six or more after midnight, order a whole Nonna Maria pie instead of six separate slices and you will be eating sooner.

Delivery and pickup are available through the shop's online ordering links, and the shop advertises free delivery in the neighborhood. Catering requests go through a form on the official site. For eating in, though, the slice is best straight from the oven at the counter, before the fresh mozzarella has a chance to cool and set.

A smart first visit is a two-slice order: one Nonna Maria and one plain cheese, eaten side by side at the standing bar. The plain slice shows the classic New York formula, while the Nonna Maria shows what fresh mozzarella, basil and a heavier hand with marinara add. Even the shop's own site cannot settle the spelling, calling it both Nona Marie and Nonna Maria, but every counter worker knows exactly what you mean.

A Village Walk Around the Corner

Walk two blocks north on 7th Avenue South and you reach Christopher Park and the Stonewall National Monument, the first national monument dedicated to LGBTQ history, opposite the Stonewall Inn. It is a small, leafy triangle with benches and the white statues by George Segal, and it is a fitting place to eat a slice while reading about the 1969 uprising that started across the street.

From there, follow West 4th Street east for a few minutes to Washington Square Park, where the arch, the fountain and the street performers keep the plaza busy well into the evening. Bleecker Street itself runs back toward the shop past guitar stores, cafes and comedy clubs, so you can loop through the Village and end with a second slice before heading home.
