Wetland Trails Where Four Foot Tall Herons Wait

Explore a nature area where a center, playgrounds, and marsh edges make room for birdwatching.

Track herons by the marsh edge.

🪶 Herons At The Waterline

Start with the wetland trails through this 217.54 acre Staten Island nature area. It includes a nature center and playgrounds, then shifts toward pond and marsh edges where gray feathered, yellow billed birds typically wait. At the entrance, a hand sculpted blue heron greets arrivals before the real wildlife takes over. The wide footprint leaves room to trade a short wander for a longer look at the water.

The park stays open daily from 6 AM until 1 AM, giving you a wide window for a morning loop or an unhurried evening walk. The grounds stretch out to touch Amboy Road, Barclay Avenue, Hylan Boulevard, and Bertram Avenue. Keep your eyes on the reeds, pause at the waterline, and let the name make sense when a tall bird appears. It works for a family afternoon as well as a focused birdwatching walk.
