Walk Historic Adobe Plazas At LA’s Original Site
Explore free museums across from Union Station in the district where Los Angeles began.
🏛️ Where The City Began
Los Angeles starts small here. At El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument, the city traces its beginnings through adobe buildings, plazas and a landscaped pocket park across from Union Station. Trade a hurried station exit for a walk among the historical markers, with Mexican heritage shops woven into the district.
Inside those historic surroundings, you can explore free museums covering Chinese American and regional history. Outside, red brick paving, leafy shade and market stalls bring the route back to street level. Colorful woven bags and blankets hang beside the walkways, with benches for pausing between the shops. The mix keeps the district rooted in everyday activity as well as the past.
Start at 125 Paseo de la Plaza and take the plazas and market at your own pace. The district opens daily from 8 AM to 10 PM. Give the buildings a slower look before heading back across to the station.
