Wagner Park Rooftop at Sunset, Then a Tavern Pour on Pearl
A free harbor lawn and a rooftop with Liberty views, then an 8–10 minute walk to a tavern on Pearl Street.
🗺️ Harbor to Pearl Street
🌇 Roof, Lawn, Liberty
Wagner Park reopened on 29 July 2025 after a two-year rebuild, and the pavilion is the part worth planning around. Sloped gardens lead up from Battery Place, an arched vault opens onto the harbor, and Liberty Island and Ellis Island sit framed in the gap. BPCA opened the rooftop garden above the pavilion in November 2025 and calls it publicly accessible, with sweeping views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Hudson. The floodwall and the 63,000-gallon cistern that protect the block sit under the grass, out of sight. Entry is free.

🍺 Table or Bar Stool
Fraunces Tavern signs itself 'Revolutionary Since 1762' and bills itself as the oldest and most historic bar in the city. Seating splits two ways. The Tallmadge and Bissell dining rooms and the Piano Bar Upstairs take reservations by phone, email or online; the Independence Bar, the Whiskey Bar and Lafayette's Hideout are walk-in only. Dinner runs nightly to 9 PM and the Piano Bar Upstairs serves Tuesday to Saturday from 5:30 PM. From the south allée entrance on Battery Place the walk is about 0.4 mile: east along Battery Place past the Battery, then southeast to Pearl Street, roughly 8 to 10 minutes on foot.

🕔 Before the Light Goes
From 1 November the light goes early: sunset is 4:52 PM on 1 November and 4:29 PM on 1 December. Arrive 30 minutes before to watch the harbor change, take the rooftop first while the color holds, then walk to Pearl Street for a 6:30 PM table. BPCA posts no rooftop hours, so check before a late start, and carry a windproof layer whatever the forecast says.
