Description

Instead of a single sweeping vista, this 451-acre botanical garden is shaped by spread-out areas you discover along the way. You can walk the paths, drive between parking spots, or grab a bike near the entrance to tackle the hilly 30-minute outer loop. It provides a calmer experience with the cherry blossoms than the Tidal Basin, though warm spring weekends still draw crowds. Dogs are welcome, and those looking for a quiet detour can trace the Anacostia river-walk at the base of the Asian exhibit.
