Turn an 1885 Ship's Wheel, Then Browse a Historic Letterpress Shop for Free

Hand your visiting relatives the wheel of an 1885 cargo ship, then walk two minutes to a letterpress shop still in use.

Board the ship, then the press.

⚓ Board First, Print Later

Board Wavertree at Pier 16 first. The 1885 cargo ship is a walking exhibit, from the crew's forecastle to the captain's saloon. On the quarterdeck you can take the wheel and turn it. Guided tours of Wavertree and the lightship Ambrose run about 45 minutes, and staff at the gangway tent take names as you arrive.

One admission covers both ships and the Fulton Street galleries. Adults pay 18 dollars, seniors and students 15, children 5. Wavertree has no separate ticket, boarding needs museum admission. Ships and tours can close in bad weather. Ask at the tent.

Two minutes north, Bowne and Co. Stationers at 211 Water Street is free, ticket or not, where resident printers answer questions beside the historic presses. The printing office two doors down runs workshops on separate dates for a separate fee. The shop and the museum keep Wednesday to Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM. Museum last entry comes half an hour before. Wednesdays and Thursdays need tickets bought online ahead, booking closing three days out. Friday to Sunday you can just show up.
