Description

Standing directly across the street from the New York Stock Exchange, this historic building is easily missed by passing crowds. It marks the early days of the republic, when New York served as the capital for five years. Beyond the inauguration, the site was the active hub of the new government, housing the inaugural Congress, the first Supreme Court, and the earliest offices of the Executive Branch.
