South Philly has room for the whole crew at Columbus Square Park, a Passyunk Square gathering place at 1200 Wharton St. Bring a dog, bring the kids, or take a turn around the encircling nature walk. Several outdoor activities share these neighborhood grounds.
The dog areas are separated for large and small dogs, with the smaller run reserved for pets under 25 pounds. The gated playgrounds are tailored for children in different age groups, while shaded seating beneath mature trees gives you somewhere to pause. A rose garden adds another stop around the grounds.
Baseball and soccer fields sit alongside a recreation center. Summer adds a splash pad to the mix. The park was established in 1874 and has subsequently been renovated. You can plan an early start or an evening outing, with daily opening hours from 6 AM to 10 PM.
