Telegraph Hill Stairs Wind Through Gardens to Bay Views
Climb past historic homes before a long lunch, taking an unhurried route up San Francisco's hillside.
🥾 A Hillside Prelude to Lunch
Give a long lunch a little uphill prelude at Greenwich Steps. The pedestrian route climbs Telegraph Hill through dense semitropical gardens, with flowers and historic homes along the way. Brick and wooden stairs carry the ascent away from the bustle of the streets below, making the walk itself part of the afternoon.
Keep Pioneer Park and Coit Tower as the direction of travel. Along the climb, sightlines open across Alcatraz and the surrounding bridges, with sweeping views over the bay. Take time to stop and look back rather than treating the stairway as a quick connection.
The route at 231 Greenwich St is open 24 hours every day. An early start or a leisurely approach can fit around the meal you have in mind. Make room for the uphill stretch before lunch, then carry that slower pace into the rest of the day.
