Description

Standing at the western end of California Street, the staircase originally dates to the early 1900s before falling into decades of neglect. Its revival emerged from a seven-year renovation spearheaded in 2007 by Friends of Lincoln Park founders Anna Yatroussis and Meg Autry, who rallied civic backers, municipal grants, and pro bono architectural help. The restoration culminated in a beaux arts-inspired public art installation designed by local artist Aileen Barr, returning a forgotten civic structure to steady neighborhood use.
