Riverside Walks Past Historic Boathouses

Walk a riverside parkway named for Olympic sculling champion John B. Kelly Jr.

Plan a Kelly Drive walk.

🚣 A River With Rowing History

Kelly Drive puts the Schuylkill River beside your walk, with historic boathouses and public art along the parkway. In Fairmount, this is a stretch for a stroll with something to look at beyond the next turn. Boathouse Row brings the rowing story into view, and regattas are part of the riverfront scene.

The road was formerly East River Drive, then took the name of Olympic sculling champion John B. Kelly Jr. That connection gives a riverside outing a sporting backstory alongside the scenery. The multiuse trail accommodates walking, running, cycling and electric bike rides, with space for a family outing as well as a workout.

The parkway is open 24 hours every day, leaving the hour of your outing up to you. Spring adds cherry blossoms, while the trail supports recreation across all four seasons. Lace up for the path or bring your bike and follow the river.
