Be at 225 Madison Avenue, between 36th and 37th, a few minutes before 3. Admission to the historic rooms of J. Pierpont Morgan's Library is free Tuesday and Sunday 3 to 5 PM without reservations, though paid exhibitions like Rembrandt's Lions ($25) require separate tickets. Follow the classic visiting sequence: start in the Rotunda under its painted Renaissance-style ceiling, move into the soaring East Room where triple tiers of inlaid Circassian walnut bookcases rise thirty feet alongside a Gutenberg Bible, and finish quietly in Morgan's red-walled West Room study before 5.
At 5, walk nine minutes north up Madison Avenue to 43rd Street, then turn east to Vanderbilt Avenue. The Campbell occupies jazz-age financier John W. Campbell's restored private office and reception hall inside Grand Central Terminal. Across its three spaces—the main Bar, Palm Court, and Terrace—aim for the historic main bar area to experience his original 1920s office beneath leaded glass windows. Cocktails run around $22–$26 and Brooklyn Lager is $12 (reference only, plus tax and tip); smart casual dress is required.
