🎃 Saturday on Sixth Avenue

🔥 March With Thousands in Costume

The 53rd Village Halloween Parade steps off at 7 PM on Saturday, October 31, and runs up Sixth Avenue from Canal Street to West 15th Street. Marching is the whole point: anyone in costume walks the route alongside thousands of other costumed New Yorkers, between giant puppets, more than 50 bands, and dancers, with spectators lining both sides of the avenue. This year's theme is Body & Soul, Basil Twist's dancing Firehorse leads the way, and performance artist Joey Arias is Grand Marshal.

🎭 Getting Into the Lineup

Joining is free and needs no registration, only a costume. Head for Canal Street and Sixth Avenue between 6:30 and 9 PM, treat that corner as the gathering point rather than a fixed gate, and follow on-site directions into the lineup. Approach only from the east or south via Sullivan, East Broome, or Canal Street, and from the west only along Canal. Marchers wait in the lineup area, then enter the route in groups of 1,000 to 2,000 at timed intervals and keep heading north. The free line is the standard way in, and a paid VIP ticket is an optional way to skip it.

🚇 Arrival, Rules, and Fit

Meet your group a block or two away and walk to the lineup together. Over Halloween weekend the A and C are rerouted in Manhattan, with the C on Sixth Avenue tracks, and downtown trains skip Spring Street from 5 to 10 PM while the uptown side there is exit only. Alcohol has zero tolerance, and the parade goes ahead rain or shine. Once you are on the route you keep moving north to the finish near West 15th Street, so eat before you line up or after you finish. NY1 airs it live from 8 to 9:30 PM.
