Manhattan Bridge walkway at sunset, then a bar under the bridge

You cannot frame the Brooklyn Bridge from its own deck. The Manhattan Bridge south path runs beside the subway, hands you both towers and the skyline from across the water, and drops you into Chinatown for a cocktail under the deck.

Cross before the light goes.

Jay Street and Sands to Market Street

🌉 Start on the Brooklyn side

Start at Jay Street and Sands Street in DUMBO, where a ramp lifts you onto the south path. Pedestrians get the south side, bikes get the north, and the two entrances split; follow the railing, not the bike paint. The first stretch stares into blue steel before the walkway opens onto both waterfronts. Trains run on the far side of a fence a few feet away and the deck hums when they pass. Plan 30 to 45 minutes for the crossing with photo stops, and expect chain link in front of the lens for much of it.

🥃 End under the bridge at Mr. Fong's

Your exit is Canal Street at Bowery, and 40 Market Street sits eight minutes south on foot, under the bridge. Mr. Fong's opens at 4:00 PM Tuesday through Sunday and closes somewhere between midnight and 4:00 AM; the bar's own page and the public listings disagree on Monday and midweek. Check the day's posting before you plan around it. The room is one of the smallest bars on the Lower East Side, dim and narrow, with a jukebox and cocktails that lean Chinese. Weekend nights fill up and turn loud, and the early hours suit the walk.

🕓 Put both stops on one clock

Run it as one afternoon and let the light set the schedule. From Jay Street and Sands Street the walk down to Market Street runs about 1.8 miles, roughly 35 minutes at an even pace. Budget 30 to 45 minutes for the bridge itself and the photo stops. Be on the ramp 20 to 30 minutes before sunset between November and January, when New York goes dark between 4:29 PM and 5:12 PM, and you reach midspan as the two towers cut black against the water. Wind hits the deck hard. Pick a clear evening and keep the bar as the warm end.
