Japanese Kissaten Days Turn Into Jazz Nights

Japanese kissaten service by day gives way to sake and live jazz after dark.

Catch the live jazz after dark.

🎷 Kissaten After Dark

Hi-Collar works in two registers. By day the kissaten menu leans Western inspired, with omelet rice anchoring the plates while purin and coffee jelly keep the sweet side distinctly Japanese. After dark the compact room shifts toward sake, izakaya plates, and live jazz, and regulars say the Showa era room and service get the feel right.

At 231 East 9th Street, the schedule follows a split rhythm. Monday through Thursday, lunch runs from eleven thirty AM to three thirty PM, then the room reopens at five thirty PM and closes at 10 PM. Friday through Sunday keep the same midday and evening pattern, with dinner running until 11 PM. Dinner is walk in only, as is lunch Monday through Wednesday.

Arrive at midday for omelet rice and a cup of coffee, or wait for the evening turn, when sake pours and a live set give the same small room a completely different pulse. Pick the version of Hi-Collar that fits your plans and settle in.
