Greenpoint Sunset, Then a Fireplace Booth 5 Minutes Away

WNYC's twin radio towers stood on this East River waterfront from 1937 to 1990. In early November the sun drops toward the downtown skyline, and five minutes east a pub that opened in 2007 waits with wooden snugs and a fireplace.

Come 20–30 minutes before sunset.

🌇 The river, the skyline, the sunset

Greenpoint Avenue ends at a small East River park with a fishing pier and an open lawn. WNYC raised twin radio towers here in 1937 and broadcast from them until 1990; the low transmitter house still stands by the path. From the rail the river opens onto the downtown skyline. On Saturday, November 7, the sun sets at 4:45 PM, about 249 degrees, toward the One World Trade end. Sunset runs about a minute earlier each day, so check the time for your date.

🔥 Five minutes to a warm snug

Walk east on Greenpoint Avenue for about five minutes and the bar is at number 91. Black Rabbit opened in 2007. The heavy wood, the swinging snug doors and the candlelight are styled to feel like a 19th-century tavern, and the fireplace is the reason to stay. Happy hour runs every day until 8 PM, and the bar closes at 2 AM Monday to Thursday.

🧭 Pier first, bar second

Come for the last of the light, then walk five minutes east and let the bar warm you up. The whole route is 390 meters of flat sidewalk. Aim to be on the pier 20–30 minutes before sunset so you are not arriving as the color goes. The fireplace is lit at the bar's discretion, so ask when you sit down. A low cloud deck can flatten the view, and the pier has little shelter once the wind picks up.
