🥙 A Family Kitchen

Let a slow weekend morning in Alexandria roll into a meal at The Big Greek Cafe. This casual neighborhood restaurant draws on handed down Greek family recipes, with weekly specials alongside the regular lineup. Leave a little room in your Washington weekend for a meal with a family story behind it.

Twin brothers Simos and Nikos Marmaras worked for years in the fine dining restaurant run by their father before starting the cafe. Their late mother wanted an informal gathering place where meals brought people together, and that wish shaped the venture. Their father continues cooking in the early morning hours and greeting patrons out front.

At 2732 Richmond Hwy, the cafe is open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Wednesday brings a gyro special priced at 7 dollars, a separate reason to return during the week. Keep the weekend meal leisurely, or put that midweek offer on your calendar.
