See 130 Classic Cars and a Steam Locomotive for $5 in LA
A cosmetics co-founder's 130 restored cars fill a Sylmar hall, with a 1937 steam locomotive and a Pullman car parked outside.
🚗 What the Five Dollars Covers
The Nethercutt Museum closes out a quiet street in Sylmar, and the plain front door hides the scale of what sits inside. Rows of polished brass, tall grilles and long hoods run from 1898 into the early 1940s, with a few 1950s and 1970s cars mixed in. J.B. Nethercutt, who co-founded Merle Norman Cosmetics, built the group, and it holds many top winners from the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Every car on the floor still runs.
Outside, a 1937 Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson and a 1912 Pullman private car sit on their own track. Walk-throughs inside the train are open Thursday through Saturday at 12:30pm and 3:45pm (some official visitor listings note 3:30pm on Saturdays; confirm tour times upon arrival). The rail car stays shut whenever it rains, which makes a dry Thursday or Friday the safer bet.
Admission is five dollars. Cash is not accepted, and veterans, first responders, disability groups and children under 12 enter free. Parking off Bradley Avenue is free.
The guided tour across the street at the Collection building is a separate reservation and a separate ticket. This one covers the museum floor and the outdoor rail display.
