A Settlement House Museum in Two Historic Buildings
Explore Jane Addams's personal artifacts in the Hull mansion and Residents' Dining Hall on the UIC campus.
🪑 A house full of history
Jane Addams Hull House Museum preserves a domestic setting on the UIC campus, occupying the Hull mansion and the Residents Dining Hall. These two historic buildings hold the story of the settlement house movement at the scale of a lived in residence. Move between the personal objects and the larger history, with a scale model showing the original complex.
Look for a dress, books and a death mask connected to Jane Addams, alongside her Nobel Peace Prize. Give the displays your attention, as the exhibits involve a fair amount of reading and use questions to encourage critical thinking about the community and its broader social legacy. You can explore independently or through a public guided tour.
Plan around Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to four fifty PM, or Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. The museum is closed Sunday and Monday. Find the museum at 800 S Halsted St.
