Opened in 1927, the Strand is the last survivor of Fourth Avenue's old Book Row, now anchored at Broadway and 12th Street near Union Square. Wooden shelves climb toward red ceiling pipes, packed with new, used, and out-of-print titles across several floors. Clerks reshelve carts by hand, and dollar carts wait out on the sidewalk. Head up to the third-floor Rare Book Room, where first editions and signed copies sit behind glass with a book-lined event space alongside.
