Description

The playground sits on land that was once a stretch of marsh land and sand dunes. In 1868, entrepreneur William A. Engeman began purchasing the property, transforming the natural terrain into fairgrounds, hotels, and a bathing pavilion. By 1878, the area was named Brighton Beach, borrowing its moniker from the well-known resort on the English Channel.
