The museum fills the decommissioned Court Street station, a 1936 stop that closed to trains in 1946 and reopened as a museum in 1976. Upstairs, exhibits trace the digging of the subway, fare collection, and bus and trolley service through the decades. Down on the working platform, roughly twenty restored subway and elevated cars from the early 1900s onward sit on the tracks, and visitors climb aboard to sit in the woven seats.
