Andrew Carnegie's house on Fifth Avenue opened in 1902 and became the country's design museum in 1976. Carved wood, fireplaces and leaded glass stayed, and Design Across Time now fills the first floor with furniture, textiles and digital work.

Museums on Us returns November 7 and 8. One active Bank of America card, including Merrill, covers one free general admission for the cardholder, and the desk asks for the card plus a valid ID. No advance ticket is needed, and the pass does not cover a companion.

Companions pay 18 dollars at the standard adult rate, or their own category, 12 for seniors 62 and over, 6 for students with ID, free under 19.

Pay what you wish admission, 5 to 6 p.m. daily, is a separate everyday discount for general visitors, not part of the cardholder weekend.

Two closures to plan around. The third floor is shut for an exhibition changeover, the walled garden closes November 5 through November 8, and doors stay open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Details checked November 4, 2026.
