A Flood Ready Playground With Five Ecology Zones

Explore a water-conscious landscape that turns post-Sandy design into a stage for ShowBox puppet theater.

🌱 Designed Around Water

Start in The Battery with a playground that treats a storm like a design brief. Conceived after Storm Sandy, Battery Playscape unfolds as a multilevel discovery landscape with sustainable, water conscious features that support environmental and cultural awareness. The experience moves through five ecology zones, Bluff, Riverbed, Marsh, Dune, and Meadow, giving kids a route to explore instead of one fixed burst of play.

The water story is part of the point. This place was designed to flood and recover, making resilience something children can encounter through movement and discovery. Then look for ShowBox, described as the first improv and puppet theater in a New York City playground. That adds a little performance energy to a space built around discovery.

Battery Playscape sits at 20 State St in The Battery and is open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM, an easy Lower Manhattan stop for families who want play with a story behind it.
