A Basement Speakeasy Under the Mob Museum Opens Free With a Password

Say the weekly password at the side door, walk into a 1920s bar, then cross the hall to the room with the copper still.

Check the password before you go.

🔑 Say the Password

The Underground has a side door of its own, separate from the museum entrance. The password rotates, and the museum posts the current one on the speakeasy page and on Instagram at @MobMuseum_Underground. Look it up the morning of your visit, say it at the door, and you walk in free, no museum ticket and no booking.

Down here the room is low and warm, with a long wooden bar, red damask walls and leather stools. The list sticks to Prohibition recipes, and live music runs through the week.

Walk across the hall and the Distillery holds the custom 60 gallon copper pot still that turns corn mash into the house moonshine. The room is open to anyone at no cost from 8 to 9 p.m. daily. The 25 minute guided tasting is a separate booking and runs earlier.

Both rooms open at 11 a.m. daily, and the bar closes at 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Access is 21 and over. Some November and December dates shut early. Check the early closures page first.
