Orangetheory Fitness Musashi-Koganei is on the third floor of SOCOLA Musashi-Koganei Cross, 6-2-30 Honcho, Koganei-shi, and unlike most Tokyo branches it keeps the same 9 am to 11 pm hours every day of the week. Anyone in western Tokyo searching for a rowing studio near me will find water rowers in every 60-minute class here, a free first trial, a ¥4,400 drop-in rate and a car park in the building.

Inside a Station-Side Shopping Complex
SOCOLA Musashi-Koganei Cross is the low-rise shopping block at the foot of the twin Proud Tower residential towers on the south side of JR Musashi-Koganei Station. Impress Watch reported in March 2020 that developer Nomura Real Estate scheduled its grand opening for 19 June that year, describing four floors above ground plus a basement, about three minutes' walk from the station's south exit, with a post office and clinics inside.
The Orangetheory studio is one floor below the top of that block, which makes it easy to fold into errands: shop downstairs, then go up for class. The studio says it has full parking, a real advantage in the Tama area where many members drive. Its phone number is 042-316-1172, and there is no regular closing day beyond maintenance dates and the New Year holiday.
Same Hours on Saturday Night as on Monday
Several Orangetheory studios in Tokyo, Mitaka and Hachioji among them, shorten their hours at weekends. Musashi-Koganei lists 9 am to 11 pm with no weekday or weekend split, so a Sunday evening row before the working week is possible. That is the most practical reason to choose this branch over its neighbours, especially for shift workers or parents who can only train once children are in bed.
Classes still run to a timetable and need to be reserved in the Orangetheory app; the long opening hours describe when the building is staffed, not a free-for-all. Trial slots and new-member classes still fill up, so book the class first and plan the shopping around it.
Rowing Inside an Orangetheory Class
The room is split into treadmills, water rowers and a weights floor with dumbbells, benches and suspension straps, and members rotate between them. On the rower, flywheel paddles churn the water in a clear tank, and the sound rises with your power. Coaches set distance targets, time pieces or stroke-rate challenges depending on that day's company-wide workout template.
Everyone wears a heart-rate monitor, and the big screen converts it into colour zones; the aim is to bank minutes in the orange zone, which the brand links to calories burned after class. The rower is where many newcomers find those points easiest to collect without the pounding of running. Keep your back tall at the catch and do not rush the slide forward, or you will tire long before the block ends.
The Coaches: Naruki, Kento, Koki and Sae
Naruki leads the team as head coach, with Kento, Koki and Sae listed beside him on the studio page. A four-coach roster is compact, so after a few weeks you will have trained with every coach on the page. If you are coming back from injury or have never rowed, tell the coach before class so they can suggest how hard to push during the rowing blocks.
Pregnant members are not turned away: Orangetheory Japan runs maternity-friendly sessions that control effort by heart rate, provided you bring a doctor's consent form. Ask the studio which classes are suitable before booking. Members with chronic conditions should raise them at the counselling session on trial day, when the coach also measures body composition.
Free Trial and What to Pay Afterwards
The first visit is free, and during the current hands-free campaign the studio will supply a top, shorts, shoes and towels if you write your shoe size in the remarks field. Trials open two days ahead and run to the end of the month; the studio confirms by email or phone. Arrive 35 to 40 minutes early so there is time to register, be scanned and learn each machine.
After the trial, a drop-in costs ¥4,400 including tax. The studio page lists Regular membership from ¥19,800 a month, Light from ¥17,600 and Basic from ¥13,200, all including tax. Add a ¥5,500 registration fee and either buy the ¥16,500 heart-rate sensor or rent one. A corporate discount applies when five or more colleagues join together.
Rentals, Lockers and Small Extras
The All Rental plan is ¥3,300 a month for clothes, indoor shoes and towels each visit, and the clothes-and-towels plan is ¥2,200. Single items cost ¥550 per visit. Contract lockers here start at ¥1,100 a month, against ¥1,650 at Shimokitazawa, and unlimited hydrogen water is ¥1,650 a month if you bring a container. For drivers, a locker saves carrying wet kit back to the car.
HYROX training also runs here. Free HYROX trial places are full, so a HYROX trial is ¥4,400, refunded if you join, with rental clothing charged separately. If Musashi-Koganei has no trial slot, Orangetheory Mitaka, at 3-34-4 Shimorenjaku, is three stops east on the Chuo line. And if you only want a solo row, skip Orangetheory and use a gym with open-floor rowing machines instead.
Koganei Park and the Open-Air Museum
The best reward after class lies north of the station. Koganei Park, one of the largest metropolitan parks in Tokyo, is a short bus ride or roughly 25 minutes on foot, with open lawns and a long avenue of cherry trees. Inside the park, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum has rebuilt historic houses, shops and a public bathhouse moved from around the city.
If you would rather stay close, SOCOLA itself and the streets around the south exit have supermarkets and casual restaurants for a protein-heavy dinner. The Chuo line runs straight to Shinjuku from Musashi-Koganei, so a late class does not strand you; check the last rapid train if you are heading further west towards Tachikawa or Hachioji.
