Rowing Studio Near Me in Hachioji: Orangetheory Fitness on Opa's Sixth Floor
Orangetheory Fitness Hachioji is on the sixth floor of Hachioji Opa, 1-12 Asahicho, next to JR Hachioji Station. It opened in autumn 2018 as a company-run studio. Here are its water rowers, 8 am weekend classes, the ¥4,400 drop-in, coaches Eri and Shinya, and a ramen-and-Takao plan.
Orangetheory Fitness Hachioji fills part of the sixth floor of Hachioji Opa, 1-12 Asahicho, Hachioji-shi, the shopping building beside JR Hachioji Station, and on Saturdays and Sundays its doors open at 8 am, an hour before most of its sister studios. For west Tokyo residents looking up a rowing studio near me, this is the furthest-west Orangetheory in the city: water rowers in every class, a free trial and ¥4,400 drop-ins.

A 2018 Arrival in West Tokyo
Orangetheory reached Japan in 2016 with a studio at Aobadai in Yokohama. Two years later, a June 2018 press release announced three more for that autumn: Higashikurume in October, Motoyawata in Chiba in November, and Hachioji. The release said Hachioji and Higashikurume would be run directly by Orangetheory Japan, while Motoyawata went to a franchise partner. Back then, the US brand counted 960 studios in 17 countries.
Putting a studio inside a station shopping centre was the point. Hachioji Opa sits at the hub where JR Chuo line trains, the JR Yokohama and Hachiko lines and buses all converge, and the Keio line station is a short walk away. You can come up from the platforms, take the lift to the sixth floor, and be changing for class within minutes.
Hours That Suit Early Risers
Weekday classes run between 9 am and 10:30 pm. Saturday hours are 8 am to 7 pm, and Sundays and public holidays 8 am to 6 pm, so the weekend suits people who like to train first thing and keep the afternoon free. The studio closes only for maintenance days and the New Year break. Phone 042-634-9390 for trial questions, or follow @otf_hachioji on Instagram for timetable news.
Because the studio sits inside Opa rather than at street level, allow a few extra minutes to find the lifts up to the sixth floor on your first visit. Members reserve classes through the Orangetheory app. Unbooked walk-ins are not part of the model, and new members should book their first few classes several days ahead.
Water Rowers in the Orangetheory Rotation
The floor is divided into treadmills, water rowers and a strength area with dumbbells, benches and suspension straps, and every 60-minute class moves members between the three. The rowers use a sealed water tank for resistance, so there is no fan noise, only a rhythmic slosh. Coaches might ask for a set distance, timed intervals or a short sprint, depending on the template the company has set for the day.
Each member wears a heart-rate monitor and watches their colour on the screen: grey and blue for easy work, green for steady, then orange and red for the efforts that matter. On the rower, a strong stroke starts from the legs and finishes with the elbows past the body. If your lower back aches after a block, you are probably pulling with your arms too early. Tell the coach and slow the stroke rate.
A Large Team: Eri, Shinya and Six Others
Hachioji has one of the biggest coaching rosters among Tokyo's Orangetheory studios, with eight names on its page. Masa K is the head coach, and the team includes Eri, Haruka, Koji, Masaki, Ryu, Shinya and Takuya. With that many coaches, almost every slot from the 8 am weekend start to the late weekday finish has someone you will get to know, and you can pick a favourite style.
The studio also offers maternity-friendly sessions in which effort is managed by heart rate. You will need a doctor's consent form, and staff will tell you which classes apply. Tell the coach about any injury at the counselling session before your first class, so they can suggest lower-impact choices, such as more rowing and less running.
How the Free Trial Works
There is no charge for the first class. Under the current hands-free trial campaign, the studio lends a top, shorts, indoor shoes and towels on trial day. Write your shoe size in the remarks box. Trials can be booked for two days ahead or later, up to the end of the month, and a reservation is only final once the studio confirms it by email or phone.
Allow 35 to 40 minutes before class for check-in, a body composition measurement, changing and an equipment briefing. Fitness professionals from other gyms are asked to call the studio rather than book a regular trial. HYROX training is also offered. Free HYROX trial places are full, so a HYROX trial costs ¥4,400, returned if you join, with any rental clothing charged on top.
What Membership Costs at Opa
After the trial, a single visit costs ¥4,400 including tax. Hachioji's page lists Regular membership from ¥19,800 a month, Light from ¥17,600 and Basic from ¥13,200, with tax included, plus a ¥5,500 registration fee and a heart-rate sensor at ¥16,500, which you can rent instead. Firms that sign up five or more staff get a corporate discount and can ask about employee trial classes.
Rentals are where a station-side studio pays off: the All Rental plan at ¥3,300 a month covers clothes, indoor shoes and towels on every visit, so you can arrive straight from the office. The clothes-and-towels plan is ¥2,200, single items are ¥550 per visit, a contract locker is ¥1,100 a month and unlimited hydrogen water is ¥1,650 a month.
When Hachioji Is Not the Right Fit
Skip Orangetheory if you want to row alone at your own pace for an hour. Any gym with open rowing machines will be cheaper than a ¥4,400 class, and the studio does not sell unstructured rower time. If you need a trial slot sooner than Hachioji can offer, Orangetheory Musashi-Koganei, inside SOCOLA Musashi-Koganei Cross at 6-2-30 Honcho, is about 15 minutes east by Chuo line rapid and stays open until 11 pm every day.
Ramen, Yu-Road and Mount Takao
Hachioji has its own ramen style, a soy-sauce broth topped with chopped raw onion, and the streets around the station's north exit are lined with shops serving it, which makes a fair reward after a rowing class. The Nishi Hoshasen Yu-Road, a pedestrian shopping street running from the north exit, is the easiest place to start looking and to stretch your legs.
On a weekend, pair an 8 am class with a hike. From Keio Hachioji Station, a short walk from Opa, Keio trains reach Takaosanguchi, the base of Mount Takao, a 599-metre peak with forested trails and a temple near the summit. Rowing first and climbing second is hard work, so take the cable car or chairlift up if your legs are spent and walk the trail down.
Practical Notes for Orangetheory Hachioji
Address: Orangetheory Fitness Hachioji, Hachioji Opa 6F, 1-12 Asahicho, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo. Phone: 042-634-9390. Station: JR Hachioji, with Keio Hachioji nearby. Hours: weekdays 9 am to 10:30 pm, Saturday 8 am to 7 pm, Sundays and holidays 8 am to 6 pm. Closed only for maintenance days and New Year. Instagram: @otf_hachioji.
Bring indoor shoes, a towel and a water bottle unless you take the free trial rental, and eat lightly an hour before class. If you are combining the studio with shopping, remember that heavy bags will not fit beside the rower. A contract locker solves that for regulars, and trial guests can ask staff where to leave them.
