K-1 Gym Sangenjaya Silverwolf is a kickboxing gym you find by looking for a giant painted gorilla. It occupies the second floor of the Gorilla Building at 3-15-2 Taishido, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo 154-0004, above a FamilyMart on Chazawa-dori. The first session is free, membership is ¥16,720 a month for men and ¥12,980 for women, and the doors stay open until 23:00 on weekdays. This is the gym where K-1 WORLD MAX champion Masato trained, and it still produces title contenders.

Masato, Daiguji and the Silverwolf Story
The gym's history page lays out the timeline. Silverwolf Co. was founded in 2000, and Silverwolf Gym opened in Sangenjaya in March 2005. Its members included Masato, the K-1 WORLD MAX world champion, and Susumu Daiguji, the ISKA world super featherweight champion. After Daiguji retired in 2009 he became the gym's representative, and as a trainer he developed Krush and K-1 champions including Yasuomi Soda, Hitoshi Tsukagoshi and KANA.
On May 1, 2018, the gym reopened as K-1 Gym Sangenjaya Silverwolf, joining the official K-1 Gym network. Today the representative is Hyogo Iizuka, and Daiguji remains on the floor as a chief trainer alongside Satoshi Tanaka and Ryuya Fujihira. Keiichi Yada coaches boxing, and Sho Nagano, an active fighter, also trains members.
Still a Fight Gym in 2026
Silverwolf is not living on old glory. A September 18, 2026 news post announced that the final of the tournament for the 10th Krush bantamweight title would be an all-Silverwolf fight, with Nagano facing a teammate. The same day, the gym announced that Kenshin Kodama would challenge the reigning champion for the Krush lightweight title. Kodama, Takuma Tsukamoto, Hinata Matsumoto and Yuki Ishikawa are all on the gym's fighter roster.
That matters for beginners because of the pro practice sessions. Fighters and aspiring pros train in a closed block, by trainer permission only. During those hours, general members cannot train or watch, and the front desk will not process joining, pausing or cancelling a membership. Arriving in the middle of a pro block means you cannot train, so ask when those blocks run at the time you book your trial.
How Ordinary Members Train
Despite the champions on the wall, the gym says more than 90 percent of members come for weight loss and fitness, and its members range from small children to people in their eighties. The main format is FREE time. You come whenever you like during open hours, and trainers on the floor give individual coaching on mitts, heavy bags, light mass sparring and physical conditioning, matched to your goal.
There are also two structured classes. The ladies' fitness class is women only and teaches kickboxing movements as exercise, with self-defence as a side benefit. The kids' class covers elementary and junior high school students, with greetings and manners taught alongside punches and kicks. All classes let you arrive late or leave early, which helps anyone arriving straight from work.
Inside the Gorilla Building
The gym describes its floor as one of the largest training spaces in Tokyo. It has four types of heavy bag, running machines, a full boxing ring and a free-weight area, so members can do gym-style strength training without a second membership. The site also hosts a 360-degree web tour, which is worth a look before your trial to see how the ring sits in the room.
Member comments on the site give a flavour of the place. One member says she expected a gym full of scary people and found it friendly instead. Another likes how the mood flips from chatty to serious the moment the rest period between rounds ends. One newer member moved from Osaka to Tokyo specifically to train here, with a goal of fighting in K-1.
Prices, Paperwork and the Free Trial
All prices include tax. Joining costs ¥11,000 plus a ¥3,300 registration fee. Monthly fees are ¥16,720 for men, ¥12,980 for women and high school students, and ¥9,900 for junior high students and younger. Pausing costs ¥2,750 a month. Gloves and leg guards rent for ¥220 each per visit, a three-piece set with hand wraps is ¥550, and a locker is ¥3,300 a month.
Bring more than a credit card when you join. The gym asks for photo ID, two 3cm by 4cm photos and a bank card for monthly direct debit, collected on the 27th. The first two months are paid in cash while the debit is set up. Join between the 11th and 25th and that month is half price, and after the 26th it is free. The trial itself is free, booked by phone or email.
What the Trial Session Looks Like
The gym publishes its trial menu. After a short counselling chat about your goals, you warm up on a treadmill or jump rope and stretch. A trainer teaches basic punches and kicks in shadowboxing, then holds mitts for two two-minute rounds. After a water break you do two two-minute rounds on a heavy bag, then cool down and stretch.
Bring clothes you can move in, a towel and a drink. The gym promises no hard sell after the trial. An honest note: if you only want a quick sweat with constant hand-holding, a semi-personal studio such as TARGET SHIBUYA, two stops away on the Den-en-toshi Line, may suit you better. Silverwolf rewards people who want to learn real K-1 technique.
Finding the Gorilla and Exploring Sangenjaya
The gym's own directions start at Sangenjaya Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line. Head for North Exit A, climb the stairs on its left and turn right along Chazawa-dori. You pass a Yoshinoya, a Lawson, a Sukiya and a 7-Eleven, and then the gorilla's head appears. A mini gorilla greets you at the foot of the stairs up to 2F. The walk takes three to five minutes.
Afterward, the Sankaku Chitai, the triangle of narrow alleys next to the station, is packed with small bars and izakaya. The two-car Tokyu Setagaya Line tram also starts at Sangenjaya, a slow and pleasant way to see the residential side of the ward. If you would rather walk, follow Chazawa-dori north to Shimokitazawa and its vintage shops and live-music bars.
