Westwood Country Bar in the Marina: Line Dancing and a Bull
Westwood at 2036 Lombard St is the Marina's country bar, with a mechanical bull named Fu Manchu, line dance lessons on weeknights and $8 draft pints.
Westwood, at 2036 Lombard St in the Marina, is the San Francisco country bar where a weeknight can include a free line dance lesson, a Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich and eight seconds on a mechanical bull named Fu Manchu. The bar calls the bull the only one in the city, and the room was built around it. For anyone typing country bar near me between Cow Hollow and the Presidio, this is the obvious first stop.
A Marina saloon built around a bull ring
Westwood opened on Lombard Street in 2019. The press quotes on westwoodworld.com/san-francisco include a line explaining how owner Wu relocated ceiling beams so a sixteen-foot bull ring would fit inside a room of roughly 6,000 square feet. That ring is still the center of the room. Another quote on the same page credits chef Jesus Dominquez with a menu of southern and Tex-Mex California fare, from Nashville chicken to animal-style nachos, which explains why the kitchen gets as much attention as the bull.
The décor leans on reclaimed wood, Western light fixtures and long communal tables rather than neon beer signs. There is also a free regulation-size pool table, which keeps the back of the room busy on nights without a lesson. The owners run a sister bar, Westwood Coast, in Costa Mesa, but the San Francisco room is the original and the one with the bull.
Lessons, live bands and the weekly calendar
The 2026 menu prints the whole week on its back page. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday, with $4 margaritas and trivia at 7pm. Wednesday brings 99¢ wings and a line dancing lesson. Thursday pairs $9 espresso martinis with another lesson at 9pm, which is the most reliable night for beginners because the floor fills with people learning the same steps at the same pace.
Fridays alternate. On the first and third Friday of the month there is a line dancing lesson at 8pm, and on the second and fourth Friday a live band plays at 8pm before a DJ takes over. Saturdays open at 4pm and show UFC and boxing cards for free, so the room can feel more like a sports bar until the late crowd arrives. Sunday and Monday the doors stay shut.

Riding Fu Manchu
The bull is the reason many groups book. The bar's own page invites guests to go eight seconds on a bull named Fu Manchu, and the padded ring around it means falls are soft, if not dignified. Hats and sunglasses are best left with a friend at the rail, since the bull is built to throw you.
Early in the evening the queue is short. After 10pm on a Friday or Saturday the line around the ring grows and the crowd turns into a loud audience, which is half the fun. If you want a clean ride without an audience of fifty, arrive close to opening, ride first and eat afterward.
What to order from the 2026 menu
The kitchen does more than bar snacks. The Nashville style hot chicken sandwich is $19 and Westwood's All American Burger is $18. Tacos are $5.25 each, or $5.75 for fish, and wings come six for $14 or twelve for $27. Mac and cheese is $9 and the mini corndogs are $12, an easy plate to pass around a table between lessons.
Drinks are priced for groups. The Smash Hits cocktails are $13, named with country puns such as the Florida Georgia Peach and the Swiftly Shake It Off. A barrel-aged old fashioned is $14, the Vaquero margarita $14 and a whiskey sour $15. A draft pint is $8, a pitcher $30, and a Shiner Bock bottle is $6. Until 10pm a PBR with a shot of Jameson costs $10.
Two charges are worth knowing before the bill arrives. The menu adds a 5.5% hospitality fee to every transaction, and parties of five or more get an automatic 20% gratuity. For a big birthday group, the Fireball shotski of four shots is $40 and the eight-shot Ring of Fire is $65.
Getting in and getting a table
Westwood is a bar first, and walk-ins are the norm. For a bachelorette party or a big Saturday birthday, write to the bar ahead of time so the group is not split across the room. Questions go to howdysf@westwoodworld.com or by phone to 415-879-9924. Tuesday and Wednesday close early, so a weeknight visit should start soon after the 6pm opening.
The Marina crowd dresses casually, and boots are welcome but not required. Lessons are free and nobody expects you to know the steps, which is why the Thursday lesson suits mixed groups where only one person has ever line danced. The bar fills fastest after 9pm on Friday and Saturday, when the DJ is playing and the bull line wraps around the ring.
Before and after: the Marina on foot
Lombard Street here is the busy commercial stretch of US 101, not the crooked block on Russian Hill, so plan the walk around Chestnut Street instead. Two blocks north, Chestnut has wine bars, bakeries and pizza for a pre-game bite. Fort Mason Center, about fifteen minutes east along the waterfront, makes a good warm-up stop on evenings when a gallery show or food event is on there.
For a daylight warm-up, walk west to the Palace of Fine Arts and its lagoon, or north to Marina Green for the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the yacht harbor. Both are about fifteen minutes on foot and free, which leaves more budget for the bull and a pitcher once the bar opens.
