Every few months the same argument comes back around: if you dropped a top 5 pizzerias in NYC ranking onto San Francisco, which rooms here would survive it? The answer people get is usually a roundup of "new" openings, and that is where the trouble starts. Those roundups are recycled from each other, and they quietly mix three very different things — pizzerias that genuinely opened in the last eighteen months, pizzerias that opened years ago and simply got popular again, and at least one address that has not opened at all yet. Below is the same list, re-sorted by verified opening date, with the hours and booking rules that decide whether you actually eat.
Opening dates and closing times are the two details aggregator pages get wrong most often, and both change without any announcement. Karpo pulls the current listing before you commit to crossing town for a pizzeria that has not turned its oven on yet.
April 2026: Rose Pizzeria lands at 1 Clement Street
This is the newest arrival on the list and the only one that qualifies as a 2026 opening. Rose Pizzeria started in Berkeley at 1960 University Avenue, where it still runs a compressed Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule, noon to 9pm. The San Francisco outpost opened on 27 April 2026 at 1 Clement Street, at the Inner Richmond end of the street, and it operates on a very different rhythm: seven days a week, 11:30am to 9pm. If you have only ever tried to eat at the Berkeley room and been defeated by the Monday-Tuesday closure, that alone is the news.
The second piece of news is menu-level. The Clement Street kitchen is substantially larger than the Berkeley one, and the extra space finally allows customisable pies — you can add mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni or pickled chillies to the plain cheese, which was not an option at the original. Tables are booked through Resy; takeaway and online orders run through Toast. A weekday lunch walk-in shortly after opening is the least contested slot in the week.
January 2026: Sforno puts a wood oven on Octavia Street
Sforno arrived in Hayes Valley in January 2026 at 514 Octavia Street with a genuine wood-fired Neapolitan oven and, deliberately, almost nowhere to sit. It is a counter-service operation with limited seating, which makes it the easiest new opening on this list to actually get into and the hardest one to linger in. The move is to order the folded portafoglio — a Neapolitan pizza folded into quarters and eaten by hand, priced at $8.50 — and carry it across to Patricia's Green, which is a few steps away. The kitchen also turns out calzones and panozzi, the Neapolitan street sandwich built on pizza dough, which is the item most visitors have never encountered.
May 2025: Jules converted a pop-up into a Lower Haight dining room
Jules is the one that most lists get half right. It is genuinely a recent restaurant, but the pop-up ran from 2023 and the brick-and-mortar has been open since 20 May 2025, at 237 Fillmore Street in the Lower Haight. It comes from Max Blachman-Gentile, the former culinary director at Tartine, which is why it arrived with a reservation problem already attached — bookings went live on Resy on 13 May 2025 and were spoken for almost immediately.
The operating detail that ruins itineraries: Jules is dinner-only and closed two days a week. Service runs Tuesday to Thursday 5pm to 9pm and Friday to Saturday 5pm to 10pm, with Sunday and Monday dark. Reservations are released roughly a month ahead, so a Jules dinner is a decision you make in advance, not a stop you improvise into a Sunday pizza crawl.
The two that are not new at all
Cellarmaker House of Pizza, at 3193 Mission Street, appears on new-opening lists constantly. It is not new. The brewery has been pairing its hazy, hop-forward beers with Detroit-style pan pizza since 2019, and it now has a sibling in Oakland at 300 Webster Street plus the Cellarmaker brewery at 940 Parker Street in Berkeley. Reservations run through Toast rather than the usual restaurant platforms, which is why it looks walk-in-only to anyone searching Resy or OpenTable. It is a very good pizzeria filed under the wrong heading.
Outta Sight Pizza is the second misfile. It runs two shops, not one: the Tenderloin original at 422 Larkin Street, open daily 11am to 9pm, and a Chinatown counter at 643 Clay Street with a shorter schedule — Monday to Thursday 11am to 8pm, Friday until 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday back to 8pm. Both close on most major public holidays. Worth the trip, but neither address is a new arrival, and the Clay Street hours in particular are earlier than most people assume.
The one that has not opened yet
Corey's Pizza is the entry to strike from your plans. The project — a former donation-based pandemic pop-up graduating to a permanent kitchen — has taken the former Turner's Kitchen space at 3505 17th Street, next door to the 500 Club, with the stated intention of running late for post-bar slices. As of late August 2026, the pizzeria's own website still reads "opening date TBD." There is no storefront to walk into and no ordering system live. Several current "new San Francisco pizzerias" lists include it anyway, which is a good reminder of how those lists get assembled.
How to sequence an actual new-openings crawl
If you want a route built only from things that genuinely opened recently, run it in this order. Start at Sforno, because counter service and an $8.50 folded slice means no booking and no commitment. Move to Rose on Clement Street, which is the only stop open seven days and the only one you can reliably walk into at 11:30am on a weekday. Save Jules for a night you planned a month ago, and never for a Sunday or Monday. Cellarmaker pours beer alongside the pan pizza, so if that is your last stop, please drink responsibly and let a Muni line handle the ride home.
