Swimming Club Near Me on the Hudson: Chelsea Piers Fitness Saltwater Pool
Chelsea Piers Fitness on Pier 60, at 20th Street and Hudson River Park, has a six-lane, 25-yard saltwater pool refurbished in 2024, with cold plunges, an infrared sauna and a hot tub beside it. Masters Swim meets for 90 minutes, and members' extra guest passes cost $60.
Chelsea Piers Fitness does not sell day passes to the public. Its pool is for members and the guests they walk in with, and that pool is the reason many people join: six lanes, 75 feet long, saltwater since the 2024 rebuild, and set against the Hudson River on Pier 60 at 20th Street. A members' guest pass costs $60, and the Masters Swim team trains on top of membership. For anyone whose swimming club near me shortlist has to include a view, this is the Manhattan pool to see first.

Swimming Where the Ocean Liners Docked
The piers under the club were built around 1910 for transatlantic liners, designed by Warren and Wetmore, the firm behind Grand Central Terminal. In April 1912 the Carpathia unloaded the Titanic's lifeboats at Pier 59, next door. Work on the sports complex began in July 1994 and it opened in August 1995 across Piers 59, 60 and 61. The fitness club now fills 150,000 square feet of Pier 60.
The pool was redesigned in 2024, converted fully to saltwater and given more natural light. The club's own description promises sweeping river views from the water. Swimmers who visited before the rebuild remembered a panoramic glass wall facing the Hudson and a jacuzzi with a view of the Statue of Liberty. One 2017 visitor called it the best lap pool in New York and worth every penny, and mentioned staff offering technique tips mid-session.
Reaching Pier 60 Without a Car
The official address is 60 Chelsea Piers, at 20th Street and Hudson River Park, west of the West Side Highway. The nearest subway is the C or E at 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue, then a walk of about four long avenue blocks west. The M23 SBS crosstown bus stops behind the Field House on Twelfth Avenue, and the M14D SBS covers 14th Street, so both are faster than the subway in rain.
Skip driving unless you are carrying a lot. The garage on Piers 59 to 61 is open around the clock, and the first 20 minutes are free, but an hour costs $29 and two hours $32 with tax included. A 90-minute Masters session plus showers and the plunge pool will run past the first hour. Walking in along the Hudson River Park esplanade from the south is the pleasant way to arrive.
The Pool and Its Recovery Deck
The lap pool has six lanes and is 25 yards long, the full length of a short-course race pool. Beside it sit two cold plunge tubs, an infrared sauna next to the plunges and a hot tub, all facing the river. The locker rooms add a sauna, steam room, heated tile floors, digital lockers and Malin + Goetz toiletries, and two members-only sundecks over the Hudson host classes and sunbathing in warm months.
The rules are short. Swim caps and proper swimwear are required, and you shower before entering the pool or the hot tub. Lane assignment is up to the lifeguard, so ask at the chair rather than dropping into the emptiest lane. Day lockers lock with a personal code and must be emptied the same day, while monthly locker rentals are sold at the front desk if you swim several times a week.
Masters Swim and the Full Throttle Team
Masters Swim is the club part of this pool. It is a coached training group that needs an extra subscription on top of membership, and the Fitness Concierge Desk handles sign-ups. A typical workout covers 2,200 to 6,000 yards of drills, technique, kicking, sprints and pace sets. On the October 18, 2026 schedule, coach Vyacheslav Santoriello led a 90-minute Sunday session at 9 AM.
Triathletes have a second option. The Full Throttle Endurance team is based here, coached in New York by Scott Berlinger, and claims 39 team championship titles, more than any other amateur triathlon team in the nation. It requires an All-Access membership and offers newcomers an initial trial period. Every new member also gets one free session with a coach in swimming, personal training or Pilates. Use it on a stroke review before joining Masters.
Classes for Swimmers Still Learning
Adults who are nervous in deep water are not left out. Beginner Swim is a 45-minute small-group class focused on safety and fundamentals, and Intermediate Swim is a level-two class for people who can swim but have little experience with lap swimming. Both appeared on the October 18 schedule with instructor Jahi Joiner, at 6 PM and 4:30 PM. Classes are booked in the app, opening 25 hours ahead and closing 30 minutes before start.
The booking system is strict. Cancelling within an hour counts as a late cancel, and three no-shows lock you out of booking for seven days. Parents should know about the separate Chelsea Piers Swim school that opened in September 2026 on Pier 60, Floor 1, with a 90-degree pool for children from three months old.
Getting In as a Guest or a New Member
The guest rules are in the club FAQ. Members receive three complimentary guest passes in their first year and six a year after that. A guest must be at least 16, bring photo ID, sign a waiver and stay with the member. Extra passes cost $60 per person at the front desk. A 2017 blog mentions a $50 public day pass, but the current FAQ says guest passes are not sold to the general public.
Membership dues are not printed online. The club handles pricing through a tour request and a sales inquiry, and in fall 2026 it was advertising a $500-value joining package. A Hudson Square club at 225 West Houston Street is listed as coming soon.
Who the Lanes Are Built For
With only six lanes shared between lap swimmers, Masters, the triathlon squad and adult classes, this is a pool to plan around rather than drop into. Time Out counts more than 120 group classes a week across the club, so look at the day's pool listings in the app before you leave home. If the lifeguard has every lane paired up when you arrive, take the wait in the cold plunge instead of standing on deck.
After the Swim: Chelsea Market and the River
Hudson River Park runs right past the entrance, so a cool-down walk south along the water is the obvious pairing. For food, Chelsea Market at 75 Ninth Avenue, between 15th and 16th Streets, is about five blocks away, and its concourse is open from 7 AM to 10 PM. Hold off on the High Line for now. Its section between 18th and 23rd Streets closes temporarily from October 19, so use the river path instead.
