Six NYC Asian Plates on a Clock — Move This Week, or Wait Till Next Year

Their Instagrams say what every comment section is asking — when, where, and is it still on the menu? The honest answer for six rooms across Manhattan and Brooklyn: not for long.

Pull Up A Chair · NYC Vol. 1 — Six Asian Plates on a Clock. Editorial cover quadrants: Naro soft-shell crab, Atomix jellyfish + king-crab tart, COTE stone crab on ice, 85°C strawberry matcha bun.

Why this list expires

If you have to ask whether the dish is still on the menu, it probably isn't. We pulled 2,664 posts and 4,367 comments from 23 NYC Asian kitchens to find six rooms running on a clock — and to answer the three words their comment sections ask on loop: open, when, location. Save them. Send to the friend who keeps texting you for a recommendation and then never books.

Half of these dishes are gone the next time you look. The other half are gone the next time you think about booking.

1 · Naro — "Ssam season is open"

Naro NYC editorial card — full-bleed hero of the week's NY Strip Ssam (brown butter, garlic, thyme, scallion) over a slim bottom strip of Galbi Jjim, Korean home-style braised short rib.

Naro is the version of Atomix you can actually book — Junghyun Park's other Michelin-starred room, four blocks above his sibling tasting menu. Right now they are running a 'this week's cut' that you wrap in lettuce and eat with your hands: NY strip loin in brown butter, garlic, thyme and scallion. Their own caption: It's ssam season at NARO. Rich, aromatic, and made to share. More than one chef I know books Naro before they book their own dentist.

  • Address: 75 Rockefeller Plaza, Midtown
  • Window: This week's special. Then it's gone.
  • How to lock it in: Resy. Weeknights at 5:30pm or 9:45pm release first.
  • Comment-section tell: 67 mentions of 'Naro' across the latest scrape — second-most of any venue here.

2 · Bonnie's — Cantonese-American Takeout, Until Tuesday

Bonnie's Brooklyn editorial card — top hero: the Spice Bag opened paper-bag overhead (crispy chicken, seasoned fries, peppers, curry dip, until Tuesday). Bottom-left: chef sprinkling salt on the table-side fries toss. Bottom-right: the specialty-board roll trio — fuyu lobster, jiew yeem clam, x.o crab.

Bonnie's was the breakout of the post-pandemic Cantonese-American wave — Greenpoint's answer to a David Chang Sunday, run by Calvin Eng, the only chef in NYC who can keep 'spice bag' and 'Bib Gourmand' inside the same sentence with a straight face. Right now there is a literal countdown taped to his Instagram: crispy chicken, fries, peppers + onions, curry-dipper crispy chicken or vegetarian spice bags available all night until we're out next tues. The specialty board — salt-and-pepper clam rolls, warm fermented-bean-curd lobster rolls — runs alongside it.

  • Address: 398 Manhattan Ave, Greenpoint, Brooklyn
  • Window: Active now. Pulls when the kitchen runs out — by next Tuesday.
  • How to lock it in: Reservations live on Resy. Walk-ins for the takeout window only.

What does Calvin Eng's curry-dipper crispy chicken actually taste like at 1 a.m. on Manhattan Ave? You have until Tuesday to find out.

3 · COTE — Four New Banchan Just Quietly Replaced Four Old Ones

COTE Flatiron editorial split — left two-thirds: Marinated Galbi torched on the table grill. Right column: spring banchan rotation (kbbq glaze, cucumber kimchi, pickled cabbage, apple-kimchi) above a cream pull-quote panel.

There are Korean steakhouses, and there are Korean steakhouses with a Michelin star and a sommelier program. COTE is the second — and the only one that quietly rotated four banchan into the spring lineup with no announcement. A NEW KBBQ glaze. NEW spicy fresh-cucumber kimchi. NEW pickled cabbage. A NEW apple-kimchi sauce on white rice with romaine. As they put it: 'think of our banchans as the nuanced pop to get your greens in.' Most diners are too busy ordering the Butcher's Feast to notice the swap. The ones who do are the regulars.

  • Address: 16 W 22nd St, Flatiron
  • Window: Spring rotation. No press release. No menu reprint.
  • How to lock it in: Two seatings most nights. Resy releases 30 days out at 10am — set a Sunday alarm.

4 · 85°C — Strawberry Danish (Berry Season Only) and the Egg Tart

85°C Bakery NoMad editorial stack — top: signature Egg Tart on the tray (crisp layers, silky custard, 3,180 likes). Bottom: fresh-Strawberry Danish on the doily (buttery base, strawberry cream, fresh fruit, short berry-season window).

85°C is the only chain on this list, and the only place you can walk in. Don't mistake walk-in for unhurried. The fresh-strawberry Danish — 'crispy buttery Danish base, layered with strawberry cream, and topped with fresh strawberries' — runs while local berries are still good, which on the East Coast is a four-to-six-week window. The signature egg tart pulled 3,180 likes on a single post, more than any other dish in the dataset. The caption is one line long: crisp layers, silky custard.

  • Address: 36 W 28th St, NoMad
  • Window: Fresh-strawberry season. Short.
  • How to lock it in: Walk in. Mornings before 11am for a full case.

5 · Atoboy — Chunjang Wagyu, Three-Course Format Only

Atoboy NoMad editorial card — cinematic full-bleed of Wagyu Rib · Chunjang on the current three-course, with a cream pull-quote panel: 'Torched until smoky and drizzled on rich, balancing the rib with crisp lettuce and abundance potato.'

Atoboy is the room where prix-fixe stopped being a compromise and became a rule: three courses, no à la carte, no exceptions. JP Park's current course features a torched-chunjang wagyu rib — 'Torched until smoky and drizzled on rich, balancing the rib with crisp lettuce and abundance potato.' Because the format is sealed, when the menu turns next month this dish does not move to a sister room or quietly come back in October. It's gone for the year.

  • Address: 43 E 28th St, NoMad
  • Window: On the current three-course. Rotates monthly.
  • How to lock it in: Resy, 28 days out, 10am sharp. The 6:00 and 9:30 slots release first.

6 · Atomix — The Last Window Before Summer Books Out

Atomix NoMad editorial diptych — left: Celtuce Namul with edible flowers (current menu, korean still-life). Right: Songyi · King Crab · Quail Egg · Galangal broth poured tableside — ingredients (king crab, white beans, yellow garnish) settled in the bowl.

There are NYC reservations you book a month out. There are reservations you book six months out. And then there is Atomix. North America's two-Michelin-star Korean tasting menu is the toughest seat on this list, and the only one with a Tock release time, which is the part that matters. Their own caption already reads as nostalgia: 'prized pine nuts served as savory milk, poured over red-pepper noodles and haepari salad' — that dish is from a past summer's menu and is not coming back. The current run (celtuce-namul under Golden Kaluga caviar; king-crab egg jjim) is on now. The next summer menu? Only seen by people who put a calendar alarm in this week.

  • Address: 104 E 30th St, NoMad
  • Window: Reservations gone 60+ days out. Book this week or skip the season.
  • How to lock it in: Tock, 10am, exactly 60 days out from your target date. Calendar alarm required.

How to actually use this list

  • Send to one friend, not the group chat. You don't want a 4-top fight over the only Naro Friday slot.
  • Screenshot each card before walking up — reception will ask which dish you saw online.
  • Fast-decay this week: Naro's special, Bonnie's takeout window, 85°C strawberry Danish.
  • Slow-decay this season: Atomix, Atoboy, COTE banchan.
  • The dishes named here are pulled verbatim from each venue's own Instagram captions over the last ~200 posts.
The point of this list is the calendar, not the rating. The plates are good either way. The window is what's narrowing.
