Who is actually using it
Three groups, at three different times. In the early morning, people heading toward the airport or starting long commutes east. Through the day, people passing along the boulevard between errands. And overnight, hospital and hotel shift workers, students, and anyone whose evening ran past the point where the neighbourhood gave up.
That mix is why the location can sustain twenty-four hour operation on a boulevard where most businesses cannot. It is not serving one market intensively; it is serving several thinly, continuously, and that adds up in a way a single-purpose business cannot replicate.
What genuinely beats it, and when
Sawtelle Japantown is a short distance west along Olympic and it is one of the better concentrations of food in the city — ramen, izakaya counters, tsukemen, bakeries. Before about ten in the evening there is no argument at all: go there instead, and it will cost roughly what a full fast-food order costs.
Westwood Village has late options aimed at students, and the Pico corridor has more than its reputation suggests. Any of those is a better use of a Friday evening. The chain's case is made entirely by the clock, and it collapses the moment the clock is not the constraint.
Breakfast on the way east
Breakfast generally runs from around five in the morning until half past ten on weekdays, extending to about eleven at weekends, and all-day breakfast has not returned nationwide since ending in 2020. At a twenty-four hour location the changeover is routine rather than an opening event.
For anyone doing the Westside-to-downtown commute, which is one of the least pleasant regular drives in the country, a five in the morning breakfast on the boulevard before joining the 10 is a genuinely rational plan. Two things keep this stretch of the boulevard busier overnight than the surrounding residential streets would suggest. The first is the hospital complexes to the east and north, which run shift changes at hours when nothing else is moving. The second is the hotel trade around Century City, which turns over staff and guests continuously.
That is worth knowing because it shapes who is in the room at three in the morning, and it is a considerably calmer crowd than a nightlife-district counter at the same hour. If you are arriving alone late, this is one of the more comfortable all-night rooms on this side of the city, which is not a trivial consideration.
The honest framing
This is infrastructure, not a meal. It exists to cover the hours and the geography that the Westside's actual food culture does not, and used that way it does its job without any need for defence.
Used at seven in the evening, with Sawtelle ten minutes away and the whole city open, it is simply a worse decision than the alternatives. The skill is knowing which situation you are in, and on the Westside that is almost entirely a question of what time it is.
