Houston does not let fans ignore heat. A World Cup day at NRG Stadium should be planned like a comfort problem first and a soccer problem second.
The route can be simple: rail, shade, water, entry, match, exit. The hard part is not adding unnecessary walking between those steps.
Put shade into the schedule
If the group is using METRORail, check the station plan and build in a shaded wait. If driving, parking location should decide the walking path. Either way, water and sunscreen belong in the same checklist as tickets.

Food should not create a heat detour
Houston food is part of the fun, but the best match-day meal is the one that fits the route. Place food before the stadium approach or after the first exit wave, not in a rushed middle section.
If kickoff is in the afternoon, keep the pregame shorter. If it is later, watch for the group getting tired before the match even starts.

Practical notes
Check NRG Stadium and NRG Park guidance, METRO service, weather advisories, parking, rideshare zones, bag rules, and restaurant hours before leaving. Choose one shaded public regroup point.
