Wood Fired Neapolitan Pizzas With a Chewy Crust

Taste Campania classics at San Matteo, from melanzane to rigatoni bolognese on the Upper East Side.

Try a Campania classic.

🍕 Campania at the Table

On the Upper East Side, San Matteo turns out wood fired Neapolitan pizzas with a chewy crust. The Italian restaurant at 1716 2nd Ave also makes room for espresso and the Campania classics that owners Fabio and Ciro Casella have brought to the space from 2010 onward. You can take a table indoors or outdoors.

Start with melanzane or bread paired with dipping olive oil, then consider a hearty pasta main. Rigatoni bolognese and pasta genovese are both on the menu, alongside pies including the vestuti and a prosciutto topped version with fluffy dough. There is more than one way to build an Italian meal here, from a traditional starter through to the main.

Service runs Monday through Thursday from 3 PM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday from noon to 11 PM, and Sunday from noon to 10 PM.
