William Tecumseh Sherman Monument

Standing 24 feet high at the Fifth Avenue park entrance, the sculpture shows General Sherman moving forward astride his horse, Ontario. The allegorical figure leading them was modeled by Hettie Anderson, a prominent Gilded Age African American artists' model. Detailed in gold-toned bronze, the monument catches direct sunlight during the day and sits framed against illuminated skyscrapers at night.
