Waterfront Walk to a Lighthouse Beneath the George Washington Bridge
Hike the Hudson edge for a small red beacon, river air, and a close look at Manhattan's northern cliffs.
🌉 Cliffs Meet the River
Start at Fort Washington Park and follow the Hudson edge, where dramatic cliffs turn a north Manhattan walk into a proper outing. The 160 acre waterfront park runs from West 155th Street to Dyckman Street in Washington Heights, with recreational facilities and a dual trail shared by walkers, bikes, and stand up scooters. Follow the river toward the Little Red Lighthouse and you reach a small red landmark tucked beneath the George Washington Bridge.
The park is open daily from 6 AM to 1 AM, leaving room for an early river walk or a slower evening pass. Riverside Drive and the Hudson bracket the route, while the lighthouse gives the walk a clear endpoint. The grounds also include a playground, a dog park, athletic fields, and a barbecue area, all spread along the waterfront. Take the trail at your own pace and save a few minutes for the river views from the lighthouse.
