Penn’s historic arena puts fans right at the court’s edge, long revered as the cathedral of college basketball.
Description

Named by Greek professor William N. Bates after the ancient Greek training enclosure, the 1927 venue holds 8,722 spectators with celebrated sightlines from every row. Penn’s wrestling, volleyball, and gymnastics programs share the facility with varsity basketball, though the arena is equally famous as the traditional home of the Philadelphia Big 5 city series. Off the floor, on-site concourse museums document the wider history of Philadelphia basketball.
