The Beach After Summer: A Quiet Afternoon on Coney Island

Walk from Stillwell Avenue to the 1,040-foot Steeplechase Pier, then follow the emptier boardwalk as the sun goes down.

Go before 4 PM for a sunset walk.

🌊 Stillwell Avenue to the End of the Pier

From the D, F, N or Q train at Coney Island Stillwell Avenue, walk south on Stillwell to the boardwalk and turn right toward the Parachute Jump. Steeplechase Pier starts at West 17th Street and runs 1,040 feet over the water, the only pier left on this beach. Walk to the end for a look back at the boardwalk, the Wonder Wheel and the shoreline bending west. Swimming ends after Labor Day and Luna Park's rides wrap their season around the start of November, while the beach and boardwalk stay open for walking all year. The shore faces south, and the early November sun sets to the west southwest before 5:00 PM. Pack a windproof layer.
