Sunset by the Capitol, Then Free Art After Dark
Watch the sun drop at the Capitol Reflecting Pool, then walk to a free after hours art night at the East Building.
🌇 The Season's Last Gallery Night
🎟️ Book the Free Pass First
Free does not mean you walk in. The lottery opens Monday, November 2, at 10 AM and closes Thursday, November 5, at noon, and you can reserve up to two passes. Everyone who enters hears back on Friday, November 6, picked or not. If you are not selected, be at the East Building entrance on 4th Street at 5:30 PM, when a limited number of passes are released at the door. Those go first come, first served.

🌅 Sunset at the Reflecting Pool
With a pass in hand, start outside. Be at the Capitol Reflecting Pool, on the west side of the Capitol, at 4:30 PM. On November 12 the sun sets at 4:57, and the sky holds color until about 5:25. The pool runs between the Capitol and the Grant Memorial, and the sky opens up over the water. Allow ten minutes to walk back to 4th Street for the 6 PM doors. Without a pass, skip this and hold your place in the line.

🎨 Gratitude, from Six to Nine
Inside, the East Building runs from 6 to 9 PM and the theme is gratitude. You write poetry in the galleries, add to a communal mosaic of what people are thankful for, and make small tokens of appreciation for someone else. DJ Chan Don plays through the evening. Bars are set up inside, and the Cascade Café and the Espresso and Gelato Bar on the Concourse serve a longer menu. Food and drinks cost extra. Free water is on the Ground Floor near the Library entrance. Photos on this page are from past Gallery Nights evenings.
