Student Photographers Take Over the Luckman for Months
An open call exhibition of lens based work by Southern California student artists, paired with a solo show by Amina Cruz.
📷 The Exhibition
🎓 Who Made the Work
FotoSoCal gathered this exhibition through an open call across affiliated colleges and universities in Southern California. The result is a wide survey of lens based practice from people still in school, including Alec Alejo, Brandon Alvarez Del Amo, Alexis Bautista, CJ Calica, and Alondra Costilla. Student shows usually run a week, and this one holds the gallery into April. The Luckman Fine Arts Complex opens it on October 24.
🖼️ Two Shows in One Visit
The exhibition shares the building with Blessings from the Three, a solo show by Amina Cruz carrying the subtitle Tortilleras, Jotos, and Potaxies. Seeing both in one visit sets emerging work beside a developed body of practice. Performances and public programs run alongside the exhibition across its months on view. The two shows talk to each other, and walking the student galleries first makes the Cruz room land harder.
🚗 Hours, Parking, and Fit
The Luckman Fine Arts Complex sits on the Cal State Los Angeles campus in the eastern part of the city, served by a Metro station and a large campus lot. The run opens October 24 and closes April 10. Gallery hours shift around campus schedules and performance dates, and checking the day before saves a wasted drive. Admission to the galleries is generally free. Photography students will read the most into it, and casual visitors still get a full afternoon from the two shows together.
