Somali Cooking With Mango Curry Chicken and Isbarmuuto
Somali meat and rice plates come with bananas on the side, plus spiced chai and fresh hummus on Saint Nicholas Avenue.
🍛 Somali Staples, Citrus Brightness
Safari is the only Somali restaurant in the city, and its menu on Saint Nicholas Avenue in Manhattan covers hearty East African cooking from early morning into the evening. Order the tender lamb shank or a flaky sabaayad wrap, then add mango curry chicken and fresh hummus for the table.
Main plates of seasoned meat and rice come automatically with bananas on the side, and the kitchen is halal with mid range prices. To drink, pick spiced chai or isbarmuuto, a refreshing citrus drink.
The dining room has a relaxed, welcoming feel and runs as a friendly one woman show that suits groups. Doors open at half past seven AM Tuesday through Friday and at half past eight AM on Saturday and Sunday. Every open day wraps at 11 PM except Wednesday, when Safari stays open until midnight, and Monday is closed.
