Explore Houston's Free Mosaic Park Made From Recycled Art
Cast-off tiles, glass and crockery became the walls, benches and pavilion of this art park, and entry costs nothing.
🧱 Built From Tossed-Away Pieces
Smither Park is a working studio that happens to be a public park. More than three hundred artists have pressed cast-off tiles, bottle caps, mirror shards and broken crockery into walls, benches and a small pavilion, and the grounds read like one long sentence written in fragments. Visitors can often watch artists at work on the mosaics on Saturdays, weather permitting. Faces, wings and letters emerge across every surface once you start looking. Entry stays free from dawn until dusk. A ten minute stop costs the same as a long afternoon. Walk the paths, let the kids crouch by the low benches, and save the small pavilion for shade at the end.
