Small Plates and Homemade Bread With Global Wine

Split a meat and cheese platter over a glass at a neighborhood wine bar that opened in 2009.

Save Sofia for a wine night.

🍷 Bottles, Bread, Italian Staples

At 242 East 50th Street, Sofia Wine Bar has poured for Midtown East from its 2009 opening onward, building dinner around a global wine list and Italian classics made from scratch. The kitchen sends out small plates, meat and cheese platters, pizzas, and warm homemade bread, giving a glass or bottle something substantial to follow.

Choose a bottle for a shared table, or keep the evening loose with wine by the glass. Square pizza arrives topped with dollops of fresh cheese and torn basil, and small plates keep the grazing going between pours. Exposed brick, colorful window panels, and a long bar lined with leather stools set a cozy local mood, and the room can get busy.

Doors open at 4 PM every day, with midnight closing Thursday through Saturday and an 11 PM close Sunday through Wednesday. That late weekend window leaves room for dinner after work, then one more glass before the lights go down. Outdoor seating and a garden add another setting beyond the bar.
