Skate, Run, and Explore Anthill-Like Curves
Take to concrete ramps, circle a ballfield, and wander through cavernous science halls across New York. Expect a gritty skate area for beginners and pros, a cracked Queens loop with toddler play, and a Manhattan butterfly vivarium.
Ramps, Loops, and Butterflies
Anthill Design, Family Discovery
Organic curves turn the Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation into an attraction before the exhibits begin. At 415 Columbus Ave, its cavernous spaces echo anthill tunnels, with educational areas and insect exhibits inside.
The butterfly vivarium adds a living focus for families and curious visitors. Stadium tiered seating offers a place to pause and study the architecture. The center is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Glen Oaks Oval Circuit
At 73-80 260th Street, a walking path circles the baseball field and supports a full lap for walkers or runners. The pavement has noticeable cracks, a practical detail to consider before choosing the loop for exercise. Outdoor fitness equipment adds stations beside the field. A small playground is designed for toddlers ages 2 to 5. The park is free and open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with street parking available.

Underpass Wheels and Hoops
Under the BQE, Golconda Playground puts a concrete skate area beside a basketball court. The skate park welcomes beginners to pros on skateboards, bikes, scooters, and roller skates, with riders taking turns on tricks. Dust from the overhead BQE can collect on the ramps, while dried mud or debris sometimes gathers at the slope bases. Entry is free, and the park is open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
